ANHAD: Music for a Cause by Suhanee, volunteer Sunshine Society
The evening of June 27th felt different — after weeks of planning, late-night meetings, and running around, seeing our hardwork pay off was incredibly rewarding.
Music lovers gathered at LPS Global School for ANHAD – The Spiritual Sound, a fundraising concert we had been preparing for. Seeing the hall fill up was honestly overwhelming, especially for those of us who were compering the event.
We had an incredible lineup of artists. Kiran Singh ji performed with such soulfulness — her Kabir bhajans and folk renditions left the audience completely silent in some moments and clapping along in others.
Faiz Ali Khan brought his training from the Kirana Gharana, moving effortlessly between classical, Sufi, and Bollywood pieces and Aditi Negi — a Visharad from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and a Miranda House graduate — delivered a performance that showed why she's shared stages with legendary artists.
As volunteers, we were just as much in the audience between our duties, and I don't think any of us stopped smiling or having fun.
From soulful bhajans to energetic renditions that had the audience swaying along, the program offered something for every kind of listener.The crowd was a beautiful mix of long-time Sunshine supporters, local community members, and people who had just heard about the event and showed up for the music. By the end of the night, everyone felt like part of something bigger.
The funds raised from ticket sales and on-site donations will go directly toward education programs for the children we work with — the same kids we teach. Knowing that made every hour of volunteering worth it.What I'll remember most is how the evening felt. Fundraising doesn't have to feel like asking for help — when you pair a genuine cause with genuine art, people just show up. Anhad reminded me that spirituality isn't just about music or prayer. It's about showing up for each other and on that warm June evening, our city did.
