Time for pat on our backs!
When Sunshine Society was founded in 2013 by eleven women, we hoped to light a few lamps. Today, as we look at the bright faces of our children, we realise that those few lamps have become a constellation of dreams. Specially because we are now a team of 21 members and many many sponsors and volunteers.
May every child we nurture find the courage to learn, the confidence to succeed, and the compassion to help another child rise. That is the true spirit of Sunshine Society.
This year, nearly 50 students from UKG to Class XII were felicitated for their outstanding academic performance as well as for qualities such as discipline, commitment, growth, and perseverance. The ceremony reaffirmed Sunshine Society’s belief that education is the most powerful instrument for social transformation.
A highlight of the event was the continuation of the Kanak Rawat–Col. Subhash Chandra Rawat Memorial Scholarship, instituted in 2024 by Mrs. Sangeeta Shrivastava in loving memory of her parents, Mrs. Kanak Rawat and Col. Subhash Chandra Rawat. The scholarship honours meritorious students of Classes X and XII from both the UP Board and CBSE Board, encouraging them to pursue excellence in academics.
The Society also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of Shri V. P. Gupta, Executive Member of Sunshine Society, whose vision and guidance have been instrumental in establishing and nurturing the Society’s learning centres in Sectors 50 and 93. His unwavering commitment continues to inspire volunteers, teachers, and students alike. His Aanchal scholarship continues to motivate girls to study and go beyond easy.
Another significant initiative announced this year was the institution of additional scholarships by Mrs. Ranju Khurana and her friends, who have supported Sunshine Society since its inception. The new awards recognise students under the categories “Sambal” (Support), “Nishtha” (Commitment), and “Pragati” (Growth), celebrating not only academic excellence but also resilience, dedication, and all-round development.
Speaking on the occasion, the members and teachers reaffirmed their commitment to empowering children through education and expressed gratitude to donors, volunteers, teachers, parents, and well-wishers whose continued support has enabled Sunshine Society to transform young lives over the past thirteen years.
In every felicitation ceremony, the spotlight rightly falls on the children. But behind every child who walks onto the stage to receive a certificate is someone who quietly made that moment possible—a volunteer who gave time, a teacher who encouraged, a donor who believed, a parent who persevered, and founders who refused to give up on an idea.
We hope that years from now, one of these children may say: "I was the first person in my family to pass Class XII. Sunshine Society believed in me before I believed in myself."
If this happens even once—and we're sure it already has—then every hour we've invested has been worthwhile.
A kind soul also sponsored the snack boxes for all.
Gratitude to all who continue to motivate us and to go beyond our comfort zones.
